Jewish Ghetto Wall Fragment, Krakow

In April 1941, the Krakow ghetto was enclosed by a wall made of barbed wire and stone, including stones designed to resemble tombstones and fragments of actual Jewish monuments and tombstones from the cemetery. The wall's construction was carried out using forced Jewish labor. The ghetto had three entrances, located near the Podgórze Market, Limanowskiego Street, and Plac Zgody.

Today, small sections of the ghetto wall still stand, serving as poignant reminders of the atrocities committed during World War II. One significant fragment on Lwowska Street features a memorial plaque that reads, "Here they lived, suffered and perished at the hands of Hitler's executioners. From here they began their final journey to the death camps." This plaque stands in front of a typical ghetto home, preserving the memory of those who endured unimaginable suffering within the ghetto.
