Jose P. Laurel Memorial Foundation, Manila
Established in 1960, the Jose P. Laurel Memorial Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to honoring the memory of Jose P. Laurel, who served as the disputed President of the Philippines from 1943 to 1945.
Laurel's legacy is complex, as he faced criticism for his close ties to the Japanese during his political career. However, his election to the Senate in 1951 demonstrated the public's continued support for him, despite these controversies. Following his retirement from politics, Laurel founded the Lyceum of the Philippines University, making it the only university established by a president of a republican nation.
Housed in the Jose P. Laurel Memorial Building, the Foundation diligently works to uphold Laurel's ideals and aspirations for the Philippines. The Laurel Memorial Hall showcases artifacts and manuscripts from Laurel's political career, while the Library provides access to rare documents at no cost to enthusiasts. Additionally, the Foundation offers annual scholarships in architecture and economics, and periodically funds research projects.
Twice a year, the Foundation organizes talks by Laurel's colleagues to support his ideas for the Philippines.

Intramuros, Manila’s old walled Spanish town, stood for 350 years before World War II came, and still houses many of the historic buildings.
