Kailashnath Mahadev, Kathmandu

Kailashnath Mahadev, Kathmandu

The Kailashnath Mahadev Statue in Nepal pays homage to the Hindu deity Shiva. It stands as the tallest Shiva statue globally and the second tallest among Hindu deities, after the Garuda Wisnu Kencana Statue in Indonesia. Located in the peaceful setting of Sanga, within Nepal's Kavrepalanchok District, it's just 20 km from the bustling capital of Kathmandu. Rising impressively to 143 feet (approximately 43.5 meters), the statue is made from a mix of copper, zinc, concrete, and steel.

Construction began in 2003 and concluded in 2011, eight years blending ancient spiritual reverence with modern Nepalese engineering. Spearheaded by Kamal Jain, with collaboration from "Hilltake," a Nepalese company known for water tanks, local engineers showcased their expertise in the design and construction process. A notable feature is the statue's deep foundation, reaching 100 feet into the ground to secure it against landslides. Additional structures were added for ground stabilization.

The statue draws around 5,000 visitors on weekdays, increasing significantly on weekends, holidays, and Hindu festivals, boosting religious tourism and local economies. It serves as a pilgrimage site and a symbol of Nepal's cultural and spiritual heritage. In essence, the Kailashnath Mahadev Statue stands as a testament to Nepal's devotion, craftsmanship, and community, shaping both its landscape and identity.
