Katrinetorp, Malmo

Katrinetorp, Malmo

Nestled in the serene outskirts of Malmö, near the Öresund Bridge, Katrinetorp Manor offers a picturesque escape into a bygone era. Originally constructed in the early 19th century for one of Malmö's affluent merchant families, this manor house is a prime example of Empire-style architecture in Sweden. Surrounded by lush gardens and an English landscape park, Katrinetorp provides a living historic environment where visitors can enjoy a blend of nature and heritage.

The estate has undergone careful restoration, preserving its original charm while adapting the space for contemporary use. Today, Katrinetorp serves as a venue for markets, fairs, private events, and cultural activities. The manor’s east wing is home to Katrinetorp’s Garden Café, an Italian-inspired open-air café that uses fresh produce harvested directly from the estate’s extensive kitchen garden. This kitchen garden, one of the largest historic kitchen gardens in Sweden, follows a French-inspired design and is divided into sixteen separate blocks, each featuring plants with historic significance.

The grounds are further enriched by a Baroque ornamental garden and a rose garden, where fragrant blooms, classical statues of Venus and Aurora, and meticulously maintained hedges create an enchanting atmosphere. Meanwhile, the English landscape park, once dormant for over a century, has been revitalized since 2002. With the restoration of pathways, and bridges, and the return of historic structures like an antique pavilion and a Chinoiserie-style gazebo, the park has been thoughtfully transformed by landscape architect Kolbjörn Waern.

Katrinetorp Manor’s shop, located in the west wing, offers a selection of Swedish linen, ceramics, books, and other unique items. Whether you're strolling through its manicured gardens, enjoying a coffee at the café, or exploring the estate’s history, Katrinetorp Manor is a place where Malmö’s rich past is lovingly preserved and celebrated in a tranquil, green setting.
