Kelley Park, San Jose

Kelley Park, San Jose

Kelley Park is a sprawling 156-acre city park in East San Jose, bordered by Story Road, Senter Road, Roberts Street, and Phelan Avenue. Winding through the park is Coyote Creek, tying Kelley Park into the larger Coyote Creek Park Chain.

Originally farmland owned by Mrs. Louise Kelley—who inherited the land from her father, Judge Lawrence Archer, a former mayor of San Jose—the estate was once named “AR-KEL Villa” after Archer and Kelley’s husband, Frank Kelley. Visitors can still spot the historic “AR-KEL” pillars along the pepper-tree drive off Senter Road.

Today, Kelley Park is a favorite among locals for its mix of peaceful nature and family-friendly attractions. Wide lawns, shady groves, and meandering pathways make it ideal for walks, jogs, or laid-back picnics. It's also a go-to spot for weddings, kids’ games, and group gatherings, thanks to its generous open spaces and well-maintained grounds.

The park is home to several key attractions: Happy Hollow Park & Zoo, a favorite for families with young children; Japanese Friendship Garden, offering a serene and scenic retreat; and History Park at Kelley Park (History San Jose), which includes the Portuguese Historical Museum and Viet Museum, celebrating the city's rich cultural history.

Clean, accessible, and full of character, Kelley Park blends historical charm with modern-day recreation. Whether you’re out for a quiet stroll or planning a festive family reunion, it’s one of San Jose’s most inviting green spaces.
