Know Theatre of Cincinnati, Cincinnati
Located in Cincinnati’s historic Over-the-Rhine neighborhood, the Know Theatre of Cincinnati is a non-profit arts hub known for its commitment to bold, contemporary, and collaborative theatre. With its 99-seat black box stage, the theatre presents an eclectic MainStage season alongside a SecondStage Series, an Educational Series with a STEM twist, and the city's beloved annual Cincinnati Fringe Festival.
Formerly known as the Know Theatre Tribe, the company began its life at Gabriel's Corner in the fellowship hall of Salem United Church of Christ. A major transformation came in 2006, when it moved to Jackson Street, adopted its current name, and merged with the Cincinnati Fringe Festival-marking a new era of growth and experimentation.
In 2010, the theatre launched the Jackson Street Market, a resource-sharing initiative designed to support individual artists and small arts organizations. Its goal: help Cincinnati creatives thrive and make a living from their art. This community-minded spirit has kept Know Theatre a key player in a vibrant local arts district, alongside the Art Academy of Cincinnati, Ensemble Theatre Cincinnati, Cincinnati Shakespeare Company, and Music Hall.
Longtime scenic and lighting designer Andrew Hungerford led the theatre as Producing Artistic Director from 2014, a period marked by the expansion of both programming and vision. In 2024, leadership passed to Bridget Leak, a director with over two decades of experience and deep ties to the Cincinnati Fringe Festival. Under her guidance, Know Theatre continues to push boundaries and ask big questions-while keeping the Cincinnati arts scene refreshingly unpredictable.
