Knoxville Civic Auditorium and Coliseum, Knoxville
The Knoxville Civic Auditorium and Coliseum, also known as the General James White Memorial Civic Auditorium and Coliseum, is a versatile venue owned by the Knoxville city government and managed by ASM. It comprises an auditorium with a maximum seating capacity of 2,500, a multi-purpose arena that can seat up to 6,500 people, an exhibition hall, and a reception hall. The construction of this facility dates back to 1961.
The arena serves as the home venue for the Knoxville Ice Bears, a team from the SPHL league, and the University of Tennessee Ice Vols, which belongs to the ACHA. Additionally, the arena has hosted several other sports teams in the past, including the Knoxville Speed (UHL), the Knoxville Cherokees (ECHL), and the Knoxville Knights (EHL). It was also used by the Tennessee ThunderCats/Riverhawks professional indoor football franchise.
From 1992 to 1995, the venue was the main home arena for Smoky Mountain Wrestling, a regional wrestling promotion founded by pro wrestling Hall of Famer Jim Cornette. The Knoxville Civic Coliseum has also hosted a variety of performances such as circuses, plays, musicals, symphony orchestra concerts, popular music concerts, and comedy shows.
