Kyoto City KYOCERA Museum of Art, Kyoto

Established in 1933, this museum stands as Japan's second-largest public art institution, erected to honor the coronation of the Showa Emperor five years prior. Reflecting the Imperial Crown Style, a fusion of traditional Japanese and Western architectural elements, the building underwent renovations in 2020, transforming into a modern art hub with enhanced functionality, while also preserving the original design.

With its open-plan layout and ample public spaces, the museum invites visitors to immerse themselves in both the exhibitions and the architectural marvels. Inside, the original materials gleam, showcasing opulent marbling, intricate floor tiling, and grand stone staircases in hues of apricot, forest green, and cream. Contemporary touches infuse a sense of airiness, providing a backdrop for the extensive collection of over 3,600 Kyoto artworks, spanning from traditional Nihonga paintings to elegant calligraphy.

In addition to the permanent collection, the museum hosts special exhibitions and showcases works from various artistic organizations, ensuring a dynamic and engaging experience for visitors year-round.

In 2020, following its renewal, the museum entered a partnership with the Japanese multinational corporation KYOCERA, leading to its renaming as the Kyoto City KYOCERA Museum of Art.
