Fanshawe Pioneer Village, London
Fanshawe Pioneer Village is a museum that represents the early "Pioneer Village" concept, developed in mid-20th century Ontario by Conservation Authorities. It showcases the history of rural communities in the former townships of Westminster, London, North Dorchester, Delaware, West Nissouri, and Lobo in Middlesex County from 1820 to 1920. It also covers the founding and development of the City of London up to 1840. The Village is managed by the London and Middlesex Heritage Museum, a non-profit charity, with support from the City of London, the Upper Thames River Conservation Authority, and the Municipalities of Thames Centre and Middlesex Centre.
Visitors can spend a day experiencing life in the 19th century at Fanshawe Pioneer Village. The museum features daily demonstrations of 19th-century trades, farming practices, domestic chores, and social activities performed by costumed interpreters. The Village includes original buildings such as houses, churches, a woodworking shop, a school, and an Orange Hall, which depict the rural lifestyle of the time.
