Leibniz Universität Hannover (Leibniz University Hannover), Hanover

Leibniz University in Hanover is one of Germany's oldest institutions dedicated to science and technology. Established in 1831, it has evolved into a prominent center for technological education in Germany. Initially, it had a humble beginning with only 64 students, but it has grown substantially and now accommodates around 21,000 students and employs 2300 academics and researchers.

Throughout the 20th century, it expanded its offerings to include faculties of arts and humanities, further enhancing its reputation. Leibniz University is highly esteemed today and is a member of TU9, an association comprising nine leading technological institutes in Germany. With a diverse range of 150 degree programs, it ranks as the second-largest tertiary institution in Lower Saxony.

Many visitors are drawn to the university's impressive campus, located at Guelph Palace. In 1879, the institution underwent a name change to the Royal College of Technology and relocated to Guelph Palace, which had undergone extensive renovations for this purpose. In 1899, it achieved university status and gained the authority to confer doctoral degrees with the approval of Wilhelm II.

Originally, Guelph Palace was constructed as a summer residence for the House of Hannover, with plans to become the seat of the Hannover Empire. However, these ambitions were thwarted by the Prussian annexation of 1866, which significantly reduced the House of Hannover's influence and power.
