Leicester University, Leicester
The famous University of Leicester opened in 1921 as University College. The main buildings of the University are situated near Victoria Park. The University was donated by Thomas Fielding Johnson in memory of the victims of World War I. In 1957 it was granted a Royal Charter. Today more than 22,000 students attend Leicester University. The school has a strong reputation in the fields of astrophysics, genetics and biochemistry.
