Designed by the renowned Dutch architect Rem Koolhaas, in collaboration with Cecil Balmond, this architectural masterpiece was completed in 1980 and officially opened its doors in 1994. The complex is notable for its innovative design and functionality, characterized by its large, oval shape.

The venue encompasses three main components that together provide a versatile and comprehensive space for various events. These include a Congress Center, Exhibition Halls, and the Zénith Arena. Each of these spaces is designed to serve multiple functions, accommodating a wide range of events from conferences and exhibitions to concerts and fairs.

The Congress Center is a key feature of the venue, comprising flexible meeting areas that include two modular spaces and 28 committee rooms. These spaces are designed to be adaptable, allowing for customization according to the specific needs of each event. The Zénith Arena, another integral part of Lille Grand Palais, is equipped with four auditoriums that provide state-of-the-art facilities for large-scale events and performances.

Additionally, the complex includes four large exhibition halls, enhancing its capacity to host major trade shows and public exhibitions like the SIFER Fair.
