Designed by the talented architect Elena Nijolė Bučiūtė, the theatre's impressive facilities include a 1142-seat main auditorium that is equipped with modern technology to ensure that the performances are of the highest quality. The theatre's symbol, a twig of the rue, reflects its commitment to nurturing and cultivating traditions of national musical theatre and presenting them to a wider audience.
One of the theatre's key objectives is to provide opportunities for young and talented artists and performers from Lithuania and other countries to participate in its activities. By doing so, it aims to foster the development of contemporary musical theatre and promote the artistic embodiment of the world's musical culture.
The theatre's season runs for 10 months, from September to June, during which time it offers a diverse range of performances, from classical operas and ballets to contemporary works. Through its performances, the Lithuanian National Opera and Ballet Theatre seeks to shape the image of the country's artistic culture by presenting the accomplishments of its national musical culture abroad and instigating and satisfying the need for professional scenic art in the wider society.
