Lobero Theatre, Santa Barbara

The Lobero Theatre, established in 1873 as an opera house, is California’s oldest continuously operating theater and the fourth oldest performing arts venue in the United States. Its Spanish Colonial Revival architecture is distinguished by intricate ceiling designs and plush red velvet seating. With a seating capacity of around 600, the theater’s compact layout encourages a close and engaging connection between performers and the audience. Over its 150-year history, the Lobero has hosted a diverse range of performances, from jazz and classical music to ballet and theater.

Home to local organizations like State Street Ballet and the Santa Barbara Chamber Orchestra, the Lobero also plays a prominent role in the Santa Barbara International Film Festival.
