Back in the ’80s and ’90s, suburban parents whispered “Loring Park” like it was a forbidden phrase. But fast forward to today, and this lush urban retreat is a top-notch recommendation for a breezy lakeside stroll, a game of shuffleboard, or a lazy moment among the flowers. Dogs get their off-leash freedom, and visitors get a dose of Minneapolis history: this 1883 gem, named for one of the city’s park pioneers, is one of its oldest and most spacious.

Loring Park connects seamlessly to cultural hotspots, thanks to a footbridge leading to the Walker Art Center and Sculpture Garden, and the Loring Greenway steering you right to Nicollet. It’s also party central—come June, the Twin Cities Pride Festival takes over; July brings the Loring Park Art Festival, and winter rolls out the twinkling Holidazzle.

Even without a festival, there’s plenty to enjoy. Wander through the nearby Sculpture Garden, sample the fantastic dining options just steps away, or dive into a packed events calendar at the Convention Center.
