Los Arcos de Guadalajara, Guadalajara

Los Arcos de Guadalajara, Guadalajara

Los Arcos de Guadalajara is a representative monument of Guadalajara, Jalisco , Mexico . This monument was erected as an entrance to the city as a result of the inauguration of the Mexico-Morelia-Guadalajara highway in 1938. The work was done during the period of governor Silvano Barba González , who commissioned the architect Aurelio Aceves . The monument consists of two arches of neoclassical style, similar to the arches of triumph in Europe. Los Arcos , as they are commonly known, are eight meters wide by fourteen meters high, and on each side of them are observed niches with monumental fountains. In the middle of the arc it reads Guadalajara capital of the Kingdom of New Galicia founded in this place 14 of February of 1542 . The monument is crowned by a second structure that has a series of half-point arch windows, known as the Hall of Flags , and served as a lookout.
