Louwman Museum, Hague

Louwman Museum, Hague (must see)

The Louwman Museum, located in The Hague, is a facility dedicated to showcasing historic automobiles, coaches, and motorcycles. It can be found near the A44 highway on Leidsestraatweg. The museum has undergone name changes in the past, previously being known as the "National Automobile Museum" and the "Louwman Collection."

This museum houses an impressive collection of over 230 vehicles with a strong international focus. Notably, it possesses the world's largest assemblage of cars dating back to 1910 or earlier. Among its highlights are 15 classic Spyker cars, a Dutch brand, and the sole remaining Eysink, which was a car brand from Amersfoort. These Dutch vehicles were previously exhibited in the museum at Raamsdonksveer, specifically in the "Trompenburg Square," which featured the original fence from the Spyker factory, dismantled in 1993.

Post-World War II, the museum boasts a variety of noteworthy automobiles, including one that belonged to Winston Churchill, the Aston Martin DB5 featured in the James Bond movie Goldfinger, and a Cadillac once owned by Elvis Presley.

The collection of vintage cars from the Dutch Autotron in Rosmalen, which had been on display since 2005 in Raamsdonksveer, was relocated to this new museum in The Hague. The Autotron, following its reorganization in 2007, no longer hosts an automotive museum.

In 2009, the museum acquired the 1913 Black Bess, a Bugatti Type 18, which was previously owned by World War I flying ace Roland Garros (1888-1918) and later by British racing driver Ivy Cummings (1900-1971), who gave the car its name.

Additionally, the museum features a substantial collection of paintings and drawings by Frederick Gordon Crosby.
