Malmo Museer (Malmö Museum), Malmo

Malmö Museum is a prominent municipal and regional museum showcasing a wide array of exhibitions related to technology, shipping, natural history, and history. The museum is spread across Castle Island (Slottsholmen) and the Technology & Maritime Museum (Teknikens och sjöfartens hus), where it presents a diverse collection of permanent and temporary exhibitions.

The heart of the museum’s exhibition space on Castle Island is Malmö Castle, which also houses the Malmö Art Museum. Visitors can explore a variety of thematic exhibitions such as Malmö Castle, Power over People, By Order of the King, Our Nature, and Scanian Dinosaurs and Other Ancient Animals. A particular highlight is the natural history dioramas, depicting Swedish nature, which have been a fixture since the 1930s and 1940s. Another longstanding exhibit is the museum's iconic giraffe, which has greeted visitors since 1937.

The Technology & Maritime Museum, another key part of the Malmö Museum, presents exhibitions like The Submarine U3, Without Land in Sight, Coastal Land, and Vehicles of the Future. In addition, it is home to the new Wisdom 360° Dome Cinema, inaugurated in April 2023, which showcases films on space and scientific research in collaboration with various universities across Sweden.

Malmö Museum is not just an exhibition space; it also serves as a Science Center. The Science Center Malmö includes exhibitions such as Planet of Ideas, Muscles and Engines, Heaven and Earth, City of Time, Smart, and Our Nature. The museum is also responsible for managing archaeological and marine archaeological findings in Malmö, and it plays a significant role in the cultural heritage protection of the region.

With its impressive collection of approximately 500,000 objects, 4 million photographs, and 3-4 million archaeological artifacts, Malmö Museum stands out as Sweden's largest museum outside of Stockholm. Its collections encompass cultural history, natural history, archaeology, and both the history of technology and maritime history.
