Maple Leaf Bar, New Orleans
This Riverbend establishment in New Orleans truly deserves the title of a "New Orleans institution". It exudes a wonderful atmosphere, with its charming pressed-tin walls and a lush tropical-themed patio. Moreover, it stands out as one of the city's premier venues for a diverse range of music genres, including blues, New Orleans-style R&B, funk, jazz, and zydeco. On Sunday afternoons, the bar even hosts the South's longest-running poetry reading.
One of the highlights is the Grammy Award-winning Rebirth Brass Band's regular Tuesday performance, which is a must-see show for everyone; Joe Krown also takes the stage around 10:30 pm. While it might be a bit of a trek from the French Quarter, the journey is well worth it, especially when combined with a visit to one of the nearby restaurants clustered around this bustling section of Oak Street.
Why You Should Visit:
You can either dance up a storm on the small dance floor or unwind at the bar in the adjoining room. Furthermore, there's a nice back patio where you can relax and take a breather.
