Maria Lenk Aquatic Park, Rio de Janeiro

Maria Lenk Aquatic Park, Rio de Janeiro

The Maria Lenk Aquatics Park is a prominent aquatics center situated within the City of Sports Complex, located in the Barra da Tijuca district of Rio de Janeiro. This facility was developed as part of the city's efforts to host various aquatics events during the 2007 Pan American Games, specifically in the domains of swimming, synchronized swimming, and diving.

During the 2016 Summer Olympics, the park played a crucial role as it hosted group matches for water polo, as well as the synchronized swimming and diving competitions. The name of this aquatic park pays homage to the renowned Brazilian swimmer, Maria Lenk, who unfortunately passed away less than three months before its official inauguration.

In terms of design and construction, the water park adheres to the established guidelines and standards set forth by the International Swimming Federation (FINA). It boasts a partially covered layout that incorporates an Olympic-sized swimming pool, indoor heating facilities, and a diving tank. The complex is designed to accommodate approximately 8,000 visitors and occupies a substantial construction area of 42,000 square meters (or 450,000 square feet).

Notably, the facility has been meticulously designed to meet the specific requirements for hosting events like the Parapan American Games in 2007. Additionally, it is equipped with features and amenities to cater to individuals with special needs, making it an inclusive venue.
