Marrakesh Railway Station, Marrakech

Marrakesh Railway Station, Marrakech

The Marrakesh Railway Station serves as a pivotal hub within the Moroccan railway system, positioned at its southernmost point. Its inauguration took place on August 10, 2008.

In the era of the French protectorate, back in 1923, the previous station stood on Hasan II Avenue. This former terminus of the railway system was conveniently situated within strolling distance of the emerging city-center, known as the French Quarter district, as well as the Royal Theatre.

A modern station was meticulously constructed in 2008 to cater to the expansion plans of the rail network towards Agadir and Laayone. Within its premises, a variety of shops and fast food establishments, including a KFC, can be found. Adjacent to the station, one can find the Ibis Hotel, offering convenient accommodations.

With a frequency of 16 daily direct trains, one can journey to Fes via the Casablanca Voyageurs station. Additionally, two more direct connections are available, leading to Tangier. Commuters have the flexibility to transfer to the main East-West route towards Oujda, which connects with Algeria, through the Casablanca Voyageurs station. Furthermore, there's an airport shuttle service to Mohammed V International Airport. In addition to the aforementioned direct train routes, Tangier is also accessible via a transfer in Casablanca.

The recently established station was designed to accommodate forthcoming high-speed trains. Future plans include the expansion of the network towards Agadir and Laayone. The upcoming strategy involves trains reversing at a new triangular junction located to the west of the station, thus enabling the continuation of the southbound route.
