Matcal Tower, Tel Aviv

Matcal Tower, Tel Aviv

The Matcal Tower, situated within the Camp Rabin military base in the HaKirya quarter of Tel Aviv, is an architectural and strategic landmark. Completed in 2005, this 17-floor high-rise spans 107 meters, serving as the headquarters of the Israel Ministry of Defense and accommodating offices of the IDF General Staff. It has taken over the role previously held by the older 'Building-22'.

Located in proximity to the Marganit Tower, another IDF structure, and just across from the civilian Azrieli Center, the Matcal Tower forms a significant part of Tel Aviv's skyline. It is connected to the Azrieli Center by the Azrieli Bridge, a pedestrian passage constructed in 2003. Both the tower and the bridge are the brainchildren of Moore Yaski Sivan Architects, showcasing contemporary design in an area rich in military and civilian activities.

One of the most distinct features of the Matcal Tower is its aluminum oval core, purposefully engineered for exceptional resilience against high-impact collisions. This design feature underscores the strategic importance of the building in Israel's defense infrastructure.

Atop the tower sits its most visually striking feature: a helipad. This element not only adds to the tower's functional capabilities but also has become a signature aspect of its design, bearing resemblance to the helipad on the Arison Medical Tower in Tel Aviv. This helipad symbolizes the blend of military utility and urban architectural aesthetics that the Matcal Tower represents.
