Mehrgon Market, Dushanbe
Mehrgon Market, completed in 2014, is a modern shopping complex located on the northeastern outskirts of Dushanbe's downtown. It was established to replace the outdated Barakat Market and other older bazaars. Covering over 10,000 square meters and three stories, Mehrgon resembles a palace more than a typical market, with its grand arches, ornamented cornices, and Islamic-style architecture inspired by the Silk Road.
Inside, the market features a spacious area illuminated by a pyramid-shaped skylight. Stalls are arranged around large columns, while smaller shops line the outer sections. The market primarily focuses on food, offering a wide variety of fresh produce, traditional Central Asian delicacies, dried fruits, nuts, and Tajik Plov, a national rice dish available in the mornings.
Mehrgon Market also reflects the diverse population of the region, including Uzbek merchants who sell their country's famous dried fruits and nuts. Products from different parts of Tajikistan, like fruits from the Garm region and rice from Tursunzade, are available here.
In addition to its role as a central market, the building houses clothing stores, hair salons, and offices for communication and financial services on its upper floors.
