MHAA: Salvador Dali, Monterey
This beautifully displayed collection includes paintings, drawings and sculptures from the period when Salvador Dalí and his wife Gala lived in Monterey. It may not be everyone's cup of tea, but for the aficionado, Dalí's work relays his subconscious, without the borders and constraints of "reality".
There are also photos of the epic party held in the Del Monte Hotel to benefit other refugee artists, called: "A Surrealistic Night in an Enchanted Forest." The collections are found on two floors, and it is easy to spend an hour or more in the museum, getting acquainted with the artist's visions and subconscious mind. Dalí's original printing press is also on display - some have said that his printing skills were his best art.
Tip:
If you not familiar with Dali's work, consider taking the free docent tour at 2pm. It is very useful and will make your trip worthwhile.
