Mirante do Vale Skyscraper, Sao Paulo

Mirante do Vale Skyscraper, Sao Paulo

The Mirante do Vale, standing at a height of 558 feet, holds the distinction of being Sao Paulo's tallest skyscraper and the 15th tallest in South America. Before the unveiling of the Millennium Palace Residence in Balneário Camboriú in August 2014, it held the title of Brazil's tallest skyscraper as well. This 51-story edifice accommodates 146 shops, 812 offices, a heliport, and a restaurant situated on the 4th floor. Initially known as Palacio Zarzur Kogan, its name changed in 1988.

Characterized by a contemporary design, Mirante do Vale was designed by architects Waldomiro Zarzur and Aron Kogan and was erected between 1959 and 1960. It occupies a location at the intersection of Prestes Maia Avenue, Pedro Lessa Square, and Brigadeiro Tobias Street in the Vale do Anhangabaú. Despite its prominence, the building remains closed to the public, leading to limited awareness among many Brazilians. Moreover, its placement within a valley creates an illusion that it is not the tallest structure in the country.

From the uppermost floor, one can behold a panoramic view of downtown Sao Paulo, including the renowned Paulista Avenue. Although the structure does not offer public tours, special permission can grant access to the top floor. Those seeking an elevated glimpse of the skyscraper can alternatively visit the nearby Altino Arantes Building or the Edifício Itália. Countless individuals traverse the premises of Mirante do Vale on a daily basis.
