Mississippi River Museum, Memphis
A trip to Memphis would not be complete without visiting the Mississippi River Museum. The 18 gallery museum features exhibits that tell the history of the river and the people who worked and lived it.
The museum collection contains over 5,000 artifacts that include river, steam, and paddle boat replicas, a Blues display, as well as an exhibit about the European exploration of the area. There is also a poignant tribute to the many river disasters that occurred during the Mississippi’s history.
One of the best parts of the tour is the five-block scale model of the Mississippi River located at Mud Island River Park. The exhibit includes miniature replicas of the cities along the river together with detailed placards that further tell the story. At the end of the exhibit is a pool that visitors will enjoy.
Canoes and pedal boats are available for rental and the outdoor amphitheater hosts many concerts by famous performers.
