Mohammed V Avenue, Rabat
Mohammed V Avenue, also known as Avenue Dar al-Makhzen or Cours Lyautey, is a stunning and well-known street located in downtown Rabat. It is undoubtedly the most beautiful avenue in the city, attracting visitors from all over the world. The avenue is notable for its spectacular fountain, numerous palm trees, and many noteworthy buildings.
The southern end of the avenue is home to the As-Sunna Mosque, which has a rich history that dates back to the 18th century, along with the nearby royal palace, Dar el-Makhzen. As visitors stroll along the avenue, they will also encounter some of Rabat's most iconic landmarks, including the red facade of the Parliament, the Great Post Office, and the Bank.
The avenue was mainly developed during the French Protectorate in Morocco, between 1915 and 1932. However, the avenue's name was later changed to Avenue Dar al-Makhzen, which translates to 'Royal Palace Avenue', and it is now known as Mohammed V Avenue.
Visitors to the avenue are offered an exceptional walk along this famous street. The palm trees and beautiful fountain make for a stunning sight, and the numerous landmarks and buildings along the avenue offer a glimpse into the city's history and culture.
