Møllevangskirken (Møllevang Church), Aarhus

Møllevang Church (Møllevangskirken) is a prominent place of worship located in the Fuglebakken neighborhood of Aarhus. Situated on Fuglesangs Alle, the church is an integral part of the Church of Denmark, the Danish state church. As the parish church of Møllevang Parish, it serves approximately 9,000 parishioners, offering weekly sermons, weddings, burials, and baptisms.

Construction began on June 24, 1958, with funding sourced from both public funds and contributions from the parishioners of the newly formed Møllevang Parish. The land for the church was provided by Aarhus Municipality. Remarkably, the church was constructed swiftly and inaugurated less than a year later, on June 21, 1959.

Designed by the renowned architect C.F. Møller, Møllevang Church blends traditional Danish church architecture with modern elements. The structure is noted for its large roof that nearly touches the ground and a simple form that narrows towards the altar. Initially, the church did not include a tower; however, one was added in 1968, also under the design direction of C.F. Møller. Both the church and its tower are constructed of red brick, and the design ethos emphasizes minimalism, evident in the sparse decorations and the white, symmetrically aligned interior walls.

Additionally, Møllevang Church is part of the Green Churches network, which was initiated by the National Council of Churches in Denmark in 2011. This network focuses on promoting environmentally friendly practices and climate action among Danish churches, in response to the global climate crisis. As a Green Church, Møllevang Church commits to sustainable operations and environmental stewardship, aligning its daily functions with broader ecological values.
