Mountain Bike Olympic Park, Rio de Janeiro
Mountain Bike Olympic Park is a cycling facility situated within the Deodoro Pentathlon Park, located in the Deodoro district of the West Zone in Rio de Janeiro. This venue served as the host for the mountain biking events during the 2016 Summer Olympics.
The cross-country mountain bike course spans a length of 5.4 kilometers and forms a continuous loop. This course was meticulously crafted by Nick Floros, a South African course designer and former professional mountain biker. Nick Floros has earned a reputation as one of the world's premier trail builders for cross-country (XCO) events in recent years. He also played a pivotal role in constructing the track at Hadleigh Park for the 2012 London Olympics.
The key elements of the cross-country mountain biking course primarily consist of man-made yet highly technical features. These features encompass a wealth of rock gardens, jumps, pump sections, steep climbs, and descents. Among these features are "flip-flops," which are rock-formed obstacles shaped like a footprint. Riders use these obstacles to perform jumps from the big toe of the foot, flowing through the sole before continuing their ride.
