Musée International de la Croix-Rouge (International Museum of the Red Cross), Geneva (must see)
The ancient Code of Hammurabi declares: "The King of Babylon expresses his will that the strong should not oppress the weak." The themes of the Museum of the Red Cross and Crescent are not new. It's just that they find expression here in a new way.
The museum reopened in 2013 after a two-year renovation, which included "The Humanitarian Adventure," a permanent collection in three sections. Defending Human Dignity is created by Gringo Cardia of Brazil. Restoring Family Links is by Diebedo F. Kere of Burkina-Faso. Reducing Natural Risks is the work of Shigeru Ban of Japan.
Twelve witnesses lead visitors through The Humanitarian Adventure. They stress the idea that human relations form the soul of humanitarian activities. In addition to the permanent collection, the museum shows three temporary exhibitions. Discussions feature the roles of the Red Cross and Red Crescent in day-to-day life.
The concept of "Adventure" is experienced and so that visitors may be actors within each theme presented in the three sections of the permanent collection. Each theme has its own space. The phases are emotional experience followed by analysis and information.
