Museo de Arte de Girona (Girona Art Museum), Girona

Museo de Arte de Girona (Girona Art Museum) is a museum founded in 1976 and located in the building of the Episcopal Palace of Girona, next to the cathedral. In the museum, Girona art can be viewed in chronological order through successive periods and styles: Romanesque, Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque, Realism, Modernism and Noucentism. There are also monographic rooms dedicated to ceramics , glass and liturgical artCatholic, as well as temporary exhibition rooms. The main collections are the medieval ones, of which the portable Ara of Sant Pere de Rodes stands out .

The Art Museum also manages the heritage complex of the Old Hospital of Santa Caterina, which contains one of the best preserved pharmacies on the continent.

The permanent collection is the result of bringing together several pre-existing collections (the collection of the old Provincial Museum of Antiquities and part of the holdings of the Diocesan Museum itself), as well as works from the collection of the Generalitat of Catalonia .
