Museo Nicolaiano (Nicolaian Museum), Bari
The Museo Nicolaiano (Nicolaian Museum) houses artistic works linked to the centuries-old history of the basilica and to the worship of the faithful towards the saint. Inaugurated in 2010, the museum was renovated in the exhibition itinerary and reopened in May 2019.
It is divided into three levels. On the ground floor some rooms evoke, with objects, projections and interactive installations, three salient moments in the life of the city and of the basilica: antiquity, the Byzantine and Romanesque periods. On the lower floor there are some showcases with votive offerings, also donated by the Orthodox community. On the upper floor is the actual treasury, with the objects arranged without any particular chronological criterion, but evoking the richness of the offerings to the basilica and to the saint.
