Museo Taller Litografico (Lithographic Workshop Museum), Cadiz
Opened in June 2010, this museum has the second most important Spanish collection, after Barcelona, with more than a thousand lithographed stones. Cádiz was the third city in the country, after Madrid and Barcelona, to have a lithographic printing press thanks to the fact that in 1820 the Sociedad Económica de Amigos del País imported a machine from France.
It has a collection made up of more than a thousand lithographic stones, coming from the quarries of Bavaria. These stones are duly preserved and exposed to the public, among the best-known lithographers from Cádiz were Jorge Wasserman and Nicolaus Müller, both of German origin, who founded several recording and printing businesses in the city in the 19th century AD. They say the city was founded by Phoenician seafarers who beached their black ships on the sandy island of Erytheia three thousand years ago.
