Nagoya International Center, Nagoya
The Nagoya International Center (NIC) is a non-profit organization located in Nakamura-ku, Nagoya. Established in 1984, NIC serves as a vital resource for both the local and international communities. The center is conveniently situated within the Nagoya International Center Building, which is just a 7-minute walk or a 2-minute subway ride from Nagoya Station. Its facilities, spanning the third to fifth floors, offer various services and amenities to the public at no charge.
One of the key features of the center is its information corner and library, which houses an extensive collection of foreign books, including over 10,000 titles in English. Limited internet access is available at the 3F Information Counter, where visitors can also find a bulletin board for posting ads. This board is frequently used for roommate/flatmate searches and sayonara sales, where individuals sell their belongings before leaving Japan. However, it no longer supports postings for language exchange partners or part-time job seekers, a change that took effect in January 2009.
The NIC also offers rental spaces within the building for various events and activities. It plays an active role in fostering multicultural exchange by organizing events that bring together the local community and the transient foreign population. Additionally, the center provides valuable information and hosts free consultations in multiple languages, including English, Filipino, Spanish, Portuguese, Korean, Chinese, French, and Japanese. These consultations cover a wide range of topics such as health, taxes, legal issues, and personal counseling, making NIC an essential support hub for foreign residents in Nagoya.
