Neckarwiese (Neckar Meadow), Heidelberg

The Neckar Meadow offers a perfect space for relaxation, play, sports, and fun. Kids love the playgrounds, people stroll along the grassy paths, some play volleyball, and many sunbathe. This five-hectare area, the largest inner-city green space, can accommodate thousands of visitors. Nestled on the riverbank, it provides a stunning view of the Old Town and the Castle. Walkers enjoy the chestnut avenue along the edge, which leads towards the Schwabenheimer Lock or Ziegelhausen, often taking a leisurely break there.

The water playground at the DLRG station is a family favorite, and sports enthusiasts flock to the skateboarding area near the Ernst-Walz Bridge. You can also rent pedal boats to enjoy the unique atmosphere from the water.

The three annual castle illuminations with fireworks are particularly spectacular from this spot, complemented by numerous official and unofficial events.
