Nicosia Municipal Arts Center, Nicosia
The Nicosia Municipal Arts Center, associated with the Pierides Foundation, was inaugurated in 1994 and is housed in the building of the old power station for the city’s electricity. One of the finest examples of industrial architecture in Cyprus, it was built in 1936. After being abandoned for nearly twenty years, the Pierides Foundation transformed it into the present museum. In 1994 it was awarded the Europa Nostra Award for its restoration. The Nicosia Municipal Arts Center exhibits the finest contemporary art from local and abroad. It also includes a library, restaurant and gift shop.
