Night Market, Vientiane
The Vientiane night market, also known as the Riverside Market, is an open-air makeshift market operating at night on the banks of the Mekong River near Chao Anouvong park. Easily recognizable by its distinctive reddish color, which comes from the light bulbs illuminating the stalls, this night market is aimed primarily at tourists, selling clothes, textiles, souvenirs and various local crafts. The only thing that is not on sale here is food due to a plethora of restaurants and shops nearby. The market is a clean and quiet, unlike its Hanoi counterpart in Viet Nam. Still, be prepared to haggle, as you can easily bring the price down 10% or 30%, which is rather commonplace for Southeast Asia. The spoken languages here are English, French and Thai.
