Observatorio Astronomico (Quito Astronomical Observatory), Quito
The Quito Astronomical Observatory (Observatorio Astronomico) is a renowned Ecuadorian scientific and cultural institution that was founded in 1873 during the presidency of Dr. Gabriel García Moreno. The Observatory is one of the oldest in South America and is the only observatory in Ecuador. It is located in La Alameda Park in the city of Quito and is managed by the National Polytechnic School.
The Observatory is responsible for issues related to astronomy in the areas of research, education, and training. Its main objective is to investigate the peculiar and little-studied equatorial skies. It has a meteorological station that has been in operation since its inception, which studies and reports the different climatic variations of the city. Therefore, one of the complementary activities of the Observatory is the observation and monitoring of meteorological parameters.
