Old Bridge Museum, Mostar
The Museum of the Old Bridge, located in the Old Town Area of Mostar, is a captivating destination that celebrates the rich history and significance of the iconic Old Bridge, locally known as Stari Most. Established in 2006, the museum was inaugurated on the second anniversary of the successful reconstruction of the Old Bridge.
The museum's premises are housed within the historic Tara Tower, and it offers visitors a comprehensive experience divided into three distinct sections. The first section encompasses the Tara Tower itself, where a remarkable collection of archaeological artifacts discovered during the 2002 reconstruction is displayed. These exhibits are thoughtfully accompanied by informative charts, providing visitors with a deeper understanding of the principal historical events associated with the Old Bridge.
Continuing the journey, the second section of the museum showcases pre-existing archaeological remains unearthed beneath the Tara Tower. Here, visitors can explore the remnants of two wooden bridges that predated the construction of the iconic stone bridge. Additionally, the base of the Old Bridge itself is on display, offering a tangible connection to the bridge's historical origins.
The third section, aptly named the "Labyrinth," houses a captivating photographic gallery dedicated to the Old Bridge. Within this section, visitors can immerse themselves in the visual representation of the damaged towers and the various phases of restoration the bridge underwent throughout its history. Complementing the photographic displays, audiovisual materials and multimedia charts tell the captivating story of the bridge's construction, unveiling the engineering marvel and the historical context behind its creation.
