One Utah Center, Salt Lake City

One Utah Center, Salt Lake City

The One Utah Center is a significant skyscraper located in the heart of downtown Salt Lake City. Completed in 1991 by the Boyer Company, this 24-story high-rise is a prominent feature of the city’s skyline, standing at an impressive 106.68 meters (approximately 350 feet) tall. Designed by the architect Niels E. Valentiner in the postmodern style, the building embodies a blend of modern engineering and homage to historical architectural aesthetics.

The structure's granite facade and copper-colored roof reflect the historic stone and terra cotta characteristics found in early 20th-century Salt Lake City buildings. This design choice integrates One Utah Center seamlessly into its urban context while standing out as a modern commercial office tower. The building’s construction required over 4,150 tons of steel, showcasing its robust engineering.

Encompassing 435,000 square feet, One Utah Center is primarily used for commercial offices and includes high-level security systems, a thoughtfully designed lobby, and two conference rooms on its top floor. Gardner’s Utah office is notably located on the 20th floor. The building is strategically positioned at the northwest corner of the Gallivan Center Plaza city block, featuring direct access to a 1,000-car parking structure and the convenience of the TRAX light rail station running alongside its front entrance.

With its granite detailing, distinctive circular dormer windows, and modern conference centers, One Utah Center represents a harmonious blend of traditional elegance and contemporary function, maintaining its status as one of the tallest and most iconic buildings in downtown Salt Lake City.
