Orchard Square, Sheffield

Orchard Square, Sheffield

Orchard Square is a compact open-air shopping center located in the heart of Sheffield. Established in 1987, it offers a variety of retail stores and services, making it a popular shopping destination in the city. Notable stores within Orchard Square include Schuh, Clarks, Waterstone's (which features its own in-store coffee house), Subway, The Body Shop, and TK Maxx, the latter of which has expanded into a three-level, 45,000 sq ft anchor store following a redevelopment completed in 2008. This redevelopment marked the center's 21st anniversary and transformed space formerly occupied by the Stonehouse pub.

In addition to its main retail outlets, Orchard Square is home to Sheffield Creative Guild, La Coupe hair salon, Anne Heppell, Michael Spencer Jewellers, War Games Emporium, and Costa. A unique feature of the Square is its chiming clock, adorned with moving figures that celebrate Sheffield's historic cutlery trade, providing a distinctive focal point for visitors.

The Square is historically significant, being located on the site of the former works of John Brown & Company, a major steel company that played a significant role in Sheffield's industrial past before part of its later works site became the Meadowhall Shopping Centre. Orchard Square combines a blend of shopping, history, and local culture, making it a distinctive part of Sheffield's retail landscape.
