Palais de la Musique et des Congres (Strasbourg Convention Centre ), Strasbourg

The Strasbourg Convention Centre (Palais de la Musique et des Congrès) serves as both a music venue and a gathering space for conventions. It's located in the Wacken district of Strasbourg, near the European quarter. Since 1975, it has been the main venue for the Strasbourg Philharmonic Orchestra.

Back in 1962, the old venue for the philharmonic orchestra, known as the Palais des Fêtes, was showing signs of aging. To address this, the mayor at the time, Pierre Pflimlin, sought the expertise of the renowned architect Le Corbusier. Le Corbusier began working on the project and created preliminary plans along with a wooden model. Unfortunately, he passed away before finalizing the detailed designs.

The Convention Centre that stands today took shape in phases. The initial version, built from 1973 to 1975, deviated from Le Corbusier's original concept in terms of style and layout. The building, characterized by its hexagonal shape and relatively modest height, was centered around the main auditorium. Subsequent expansions followed: in 1989, a new wing was added to the northwest, featuring a second auditorium. Then, in 2016, another auditorium was inaugurated within the same northwest wing.

From 2012 to 2016, the Convention Centre underwent comprehensive renovation and modernization under the guidance of the Austrian architectural firm Dietrich/Untertrifaller and the French firm Rey-Lucquet & Associés. The renovation included the addition of a second new wing spanning 8,000 square meters, along with reconfigured existing spaces to accommodate a greater number of visitors and participants. As a result, the total floor area of the building expanded to 45,000 square meters.

The Convention Centre serves as the venue for more than 300 diverse events annually, which encompasses concerts among other activities.
