Palata Vrakijen (Vrakijen Palace), Kotor
Constructed in the latter half of the 18th century, this late-Baroque edifice is believed to have replaced an older 14th-century structure once owned by the Vrakijen family.
Unlike many palaces in the Bay of Kotor region, it has a plastered exterior, lending it a distinctive appearance. However, the most striking decorative feature lies above the portal: a composition of angels crafted in stucco, bearing a Baroque frame displaying the Vrachien family coat of arms, depicting a swallow. Adjacent to the portal lies an arched street passage, leading to a room that originally served as the house chapel, a rarity in Kotor.
Venturing inside, one discovers a well-preserved interior. Ascending to the first floor reveals a staircase hall decorated with wall paintings and marbles executed in the "al secco" technique by the skilled Italian master Napoleon d'Este during the latter half of the 19th century. Meanwhile, the main salon exudes timeless charm with its original mosaics and terrazzo flooring, a testament to the enduring craftsmanship of yesteryears. Transitioning to the side rooms, one encounters the original doors, crafted from an array of fine woods.
