Parc Jean-Drapeau, Montreal

Jean Drapeau Park, located in Montreal, is the third-largest park in the city. It consists of two islands, namely Saint Helen's Island and the man-made Notre Dame Island, situated off the coast of Old Montreal in the Saint Lawrence River.

These islands gained prominence as the site of the Expo 67 World's Fair. Notre Dame Island was specifically built for the exposition, while Saint Helen's Island was artificially expanded at its northern and southern ends. The park was subsequently renamed in honor of Jean Drapeau, the former mayor of Montreal and the driving force behind Expo 67.

During the summer, the park reaches its peak season with various attractions open to the public. These include La Ronde amusement park, Montreal Casino, Montreal Biosphere's environmental museum, Saint Helen Island Fort with its historic fortifications, Circuit Gilles Villeneuve Formula One race track hosting the Canadian Grand Prix, a large outdoor concert venue, an Olympic rowing basin, an aquatics center that hosted the 2005 World Aquatics Championships, and Plage Jean-Doré beach.

In winter, the park hosts the Fête des neiges de Montréal, a free carnival with winter activities. The islands have hiking, skiing, biking, sports fields, and more. During the rest of the year, the park offers a variety of free and paid activities. Nearby, there's a weekly electronic dance festival by Alexander Calder's sculpture, Man, commissioned for Expo 67.
