Parc Oberthür (Oberthür Park), Rennes

Parc Oberthür (Oberthür Park), Rennes

The Oberthür Park is a graceful 19th-century garden, once the private park of printer François-Charles Oberthür and laid out by landscape architect Denis Bühler, who also shaped Thabor Park. Created in 1863–1864, it passed to the city in 1960 and opened to the public in 1977. Today its three hectares centre on a calm ornamental lake framed by lawns and mature trees.

Visitors will notice a varied collection-cedars, fern-leaf beeches, English oaks, silver limes, and ginkgo among them-planted in the English-style tradition that favours winding paths and layered foliage. Seasonal colour reads well here, from spring leaf to autumn tones mirrored in the water.

Art punctuates the landscape. Around the water you may spot contemporary pieces, including "YES" by Jacques Villeglé, installed in 2017. Benches and small footbridges encourage unhurried circuits and quiet pauses.
