Parque General San Martin (General San Martin Park), Mendoza
General San Martin Park, established in 1896, is a significant green space. The park's main entrance gates, installed in 1909, were manufactured by a Scottish foundry and brought to Argentina aboard the steamer "Belgrano". These gates, adorned with the Mendoza coat of arms and a condor, are more of a monumental landmark than a functional entryway, as the park itself isn't enclosed by a fence.
The design of the park, led by landscape architect Carlos Thays, integrates English and French styles from the 19th century. Covering 393 hectares, the park features 34 sculptures, a rose garden established in 1919, and numerous other attractions. These include the Malvinas Argentinas Stadium, the National University of Cuyo, and the Monument to the Army of the Andes. The park also hosts the annual National Grape Harvest Festival at the Frank Romero Day Amphitheater and contains the Cornelio Moyano Museum of Anthropology and Natural Sciences, which houses 40,000 exhibits.
Other facilities include a lake, tennis courts, an equestrian center, a golf course, playgrounds, a zoo, and a large amphitheater. The park’s Glory Hill provides scenic views and features a monument dedicated to San Martin's Army of the Andes.
