Parroquia Santisima Trinidad (Holy Trinity Parish), Malaga
Located in the historic La Trinidad neighborhood of Malaga-a district that recently celebrated its 500th anniversary-the Holy Trinity Parish (Parroquia Santisima Trinidad) is a remarkable religious site that combines architectural splendor with deep historical roots. The parish and its neighboring convent are enduring legacies of King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella, who championed their creation as a testament to their faith and support for monastic life.
The church, along with the Convent of Peace, was designed by Cirilo Salinas, the municipal and diocesan architect. The project reached its completion in 1862 when the structures were blessed. Later, in 1953, Cardinal Angel Herrera Oria formally established the current parish, further cementing its importance within Málaga's ecclesiastical framework.
The architectural style of the Holy Trinity Parish is influenced by the classic lines of El Escorial, a hallmark of Spanish Renaissance architecture. The church is distinguished by its semicircular compass, enclosed by a low wall, which leads to the small square known as the Compass of the Trinity. From here, visitors can admire the main portico, which serves as the grand entrance to the church.
A striking feature of the church is its imposing tower, constructed with exposed brick and visible from a distance. Rising above the main portico, the tower is crowned with a triangular pediment, symbolizing the Holy Trinity. Two additional porticos, located on either side, echo this design with their ornately decorated friezes.
The church interior follows a basilica plan, featuring three naves separated by pilasters. The central nave is vaulted with a barrel ceiling, while the side naves are adorned with spherical caps resting on pendentives. The layout also includes a transept and a main chapel, behind which lies a beautifully crafted dressing room. The centerpiece of the chapel is a sculptural group depicting the Holy Trinity, a stunning artistic representation that emphasizes the church’s spiritual focus.

Malaga Introduction Walking Tour
Malaga is old. It is 2,800 years old. It is thought to have been founded by Phoenician traders in 770 BC. From its beginnings, it was a natural waypoint between Phoenicia in the eastern Mediterranean and Gibraltar. Cathaginians and, later, Romans ruled the city. Their core settlements were in an area between Gibralfaro Hill to the Guadalmedina River.
