Peju Winery, Napa

Peju Winery, Napa

Established in 1983, Peju Family Winery is dedicated to producing balanced, expressive, and elegant wines from organic and sustainably farmed vineyards in the Napa Valley. Family owned and operated, our business has transformed over the past 40 years from a simple grape growing venture into a landmark winery. Located on an idyllic estate in the renowned Rutherford appellation, the winery is home to lush gardens, distinctive architecture, and a tasting room offering world-class hospitality and culinary experiences. With additional vineyards in Calistoga, Oak Knoll, Pope Valley, and Los Carneros, we craft single varietals such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, and Sauvignon Blanc; along with blended wines that showcase the essential taste of our Estate vineyards. Besides its distinguished wines, PEJU is recognized for the iconic 50 foot Tower that grazes the beautiful gardens and the iconic Sycamore Trees that line the driveway leaning towards where the sunsets each night.

Situated in Rutherford, the very heart of Napa Valley, PEJU is an ode to beauty in wine, in art and in the property that we share with our guests. Founded in 1983 by industry trailblazer Tony Peju and his wife Herta ‘HB’, PEJU is known for its warm hospitality and approachable exploration of Napa Valley wine and seasonal food created by their in-house Chef. 40 years later, PEJU is helmed by a second-generation as daughters, Lisa, and Ariana Peju, work alongside longtime winemaker Sara Fowler to bring our guests distinctive tasting and culinary pairing experiences for every palette and price range. With the next generation at the helm, we will continue to operate with a boutique approach and a "guest first" mentality that will surely make PEJU the highlight of your visit to the Napa Valley.

Named "BEST WINERY IN NORTH AMERICA" by the Discoverer Blog, PEJU Winery began with Tony Peju daring to sell wines in an informal facility: the garage at their vineyard estate in Rutherford, Napa Valley. A lengthy legal battle ensued and Peju persisted: this became the catalyst for Napa County to create the legal definition of what a winery is which was adopted in 1991. It is no wonder that Tony is called "The Father of Custom Crush ". We have six vineyard estates located throughout the Napa Valley. Our family Estate surrounding the production facility in Rutherford is where it all began. The first 30-acre parcel in Rutherford was purchased in 1983. Today, the winery owns five properties totalling 558 acres, 232 of which are currently planted. By owning and maintaining our own vineyard properties we can completely control the quality of the fruit we grow and the wines we make. Our 30 acre Rutherford Estate was certified organic in 2007 by the California Certified Organic Farmers (CCOF) and in 2019 we were certified Fish Friendly Farming at all of our vineyard properties. We currently practice sustainable farming at all of our vineyard properties with the goal of becoming organically certified within the next few years. Our 50 foot tower was designed by renowned Southern California architect, Calvin Straub. Built in 2003, its rendering has graced the label of every estate-bottled Peju wine since. Upon entering through the hand-crafted wooden doors of the copper roofed, stone-faced tasting room tower at Peju Winery, visitors are greeted by one of the most well-appointed and architecturally appealing facilities in all of the Napa Valley. With a soaring ceiling and a mezzanine, the large, open room houses a selection of books on food, wine and Napa Valley history; artwork, crystal decanters and wineglasses, wine openers and accessories, local olive oils, and other delectables, all lit by a massive, antique stained glass window dating back to 1906. Our Rutherford Estate is a peaceful environment comprised of impeccable lawns, immaculately pruned trees and a bounty of flowers. The gardens change on a daily basis and visitors can often glimpse Herta Peju, guiding the planting and pruning as she has for many years, with her hands in the dirt! Mature perennials range everywhere; roses and dahlias mingling with other seasonal plantings of colorful annuals to create a dazzling and fragrant display. There is the man-made “Willow Creek” with its charming footbridge, a Koi pond and several splashing fountains, and footpaths meandering throughout, leading the visitor from one idyllic vignette to the next. A prominent feature of the gardens is the work of sculptors Welton Rotz and Philip Dizick, whose art has been tucked strategically into the gardens. ***PH***
