Penang Hill Mosque (Masjid Bukit Bendera), George Town

Penang Hill Mosque (Masjid Bukit Bendera), George Town

Perched atop Penang Hill, this is the only mosque catering to Muslims residing and laboring in the area. It particularly accommodates individuals employed at the stalls near the Penang Hill Railway Station and government personnel stationed on Penang Hill.

Constructed in 1966, the mosque introduces elements of Islamic architecture amidst the predominantly colonial-style edifices dotting the hill. Its towering minarets and gleaming golden domes create a striking juxtaposition against the serene surroundings, with the nearby Hindu temple providing a complementary diversity.

Visitors are welcome to enter the mosque after removing their shoes for a brief exploration or simply stroll around the compound. The vantage point from the mosque's platform offers captivating vistas of the cityscape and the strait below, adding to the allure of the visit.
