Phnom Krom, Siem Reap

Phnom Krom, Siem Reap

Phnom Krom, a hill about 12 kilometers southwest of Siem Reap, boasts a stunning 9th-century Angkorian temple, Prasat Phnom Krom. This 140-meter hilltop is also renowned for its breathtaking sunset views, best enjoyed from a picturesque pagoda at the summit.

Atop Phnom Krom stands a remarkable Hindu temple, constructed in the 9th century under King Yasovarman's rule. This temple features three towers, each honoring a different Hindu deity: Brahma in the south, Shiva in the center, and Vishnu in the north. This hilltop temple is one of three built by King Yasovarman in the area, alongside Phnom Bakheng and Phnom Bok.

Phnom Krom is easily accessible, with tuk-tuks being the most common mode of transportation. The journey itself is captivating, passing through villages, rice paddies, and lotus fields. Along the way, local eateries offer authentic Cambodian cuisine, complete with hammocks for a post-meal relaxation amidst serene village ambience.

Upon reaching Phnom Krom's base, particularly if arriving by bicycle or tuk-tuk, a tour around the area is highly recommended. The relatively low tourist presence allows for an immersive experience in a quaint Cambodian village, offering a glimpse into local life. During certain seasons, visitors can also enjoy the sight of blooming lotus fields.
